We have succesfully designed, supervised or been involved in a large number of medium-size up to large scale projects, since 1997.

The projects listed below are only a few number of them, are indicative and cover a wide range concerning the type, nature, engineering and scientific approach, tasks, methodology and used software.

- Material non-linearities (plexiglas), were taken into account.
- Earthquake design according to EC7/EC8. (Modal Response Spectrum Analysis)

Main points :
- Spatial FE structural analysis of a cabled (appr. 100m in lenght, and more than 12m cantilever) steel structure by using member / surface elements.
- Second order effects and geometric non-linearities, were taken into account.
- Snow and wind loads were considered according to EC1-1-3, & EC1-1-4, respectively.

- Earthquake design according to EC8. (Modal Response Spectrum Analysis)
- Soil - structure interaction, considered.
- Member elements' sizing according to EC3.

Main points :
- Spatial and combined FE analysis by using member / surface / solid elements.
- The non-linearities concerning contact and frictional effects between steel plate and the upper face of RC foundation, were taken into account.
- Under the bottom face of the foundation, the multi-layered soil strata modeled as finite (up to bedrock) elastic half-space, for exploring the "soil-structure" interaction (under the given loads), and for determining the stress-strain level and deformed shape of the sub-soil.
- Software : RFEM (Dlubal) / SOIL-IN / steel surfaces.

- Multiple loads (including boyancy water uplift pressures). Thorough investigation of the non-linearities concerning the likely loss of the effective (possitive) contact pressure between the bottom face of the slab and the ground.
- Spatial FE structural analysis of the RC ground slab and the RC bearing walls. Bearing elements' sizing, shear and punching shear check, bending design, etc.

- Spatial FE non-linear structural analysis and design of burried RC manholes (prefabricated parts) of various shapes (cylindrical and box-shaped), sizes and geometry.
- ULS & SLS verifications and checks under multiple loads (heavy vehicles at several positions, earth pressures, underground water table, etc.)
- Special attention to the modelization of the rubber sealed joint gaps between the prefabricated parts, and the relevant incurred non-lineariries.

- Exact consideration of the adverse positions of the wheel point loads (as appropriate converted in equivalent surface loads) for the particular accurate shear, punching shear and bending design and check.

- Spatial (linear elastic) FE structural and time history analysis of the RC-model.
- Time history analysis (direct integration) for a given knoen ("adverse") accelerogram,Digitization and step of time intergration : 0.01 sec.
- Results' comparison in terms of stresses, storey lateral displacements, reinforcements, etc. to the respective results  from the analysis (employing the modal response spectral analysis) by the use of the software "NEXT for WINDOWS" in 2009.

 Preliminary design of a RC - slab in ULS / SLS

Year : 2015
Tasks : RC-slab's preliminary structural analysis and design. Optimization of thickness. Documentation.
Main points :
- Structural (FE - 2D) analysis and design of a single slab in ULS/SLS.
- Calculation of the required reinforcements in the ULS, which is less than the provided. The cracked state (II) in SLS includes : Crack width calculation / limit deformations / limit diameter and spacing of rebars / stress control of RC and RS, by utilising the tension stiffening effect of the reinforcements at the cross section's tensile zone.
- Iterative and successive redefinition of the slab thickness, for optimizing the required reinforcements (from both ULS and SLS).
- Software : RFEM (Dlubal).  

 


Programing of an algorithm in excel

- Spatial structural analysis and design for every of the 3 (adjoining but statically independent) RC-models in a steep landplot.
- Earthquake design according to EAK 2000.
- Special attention to the optimization of the bearing RC-elements (mainly columns and beams) due to restrictions concerning the storey heights, shape of each building, and the required (between each other) seismic joint gaps.
